StoryFrame / 2020–2021

Stories are becoming places.

The next frame may surround the audience instead of sitting in front of them. StoryFrame is looking toward immersive media and the experiences that become possible when viewers can enter, explore, and participate.

From framing a picture to framing a world.

StoryFrame began with video: a rectangular frame moving inside a web page. Podcasts added a frame made entirely of sound. Live streaming turned the frame into a shared moment.

Virtual, augmented, and extended reality suggest another change. The audience is no longer limited to watching from outside. It can occupy a point of view, move through information, and choose where to look next.

This is where StoryFrame intends to go. The questions are still larger than the answers, and the technologies are still taking shape. The opportunity is to understand what each new frame can add before using it.

The technology is emerging.
The exploration begins here.

Different ways to enter the frame.

01 / VR

Presence

Virtual reality replaces the surrounding room with another environment. Its promise is not simply a wider picture, but the feeling of being somewhere else.

02 / AR

Context

Augmented reality brings digital information into the physical world. The frame becomes the place where those two layers meet.

03 / XR

Continuum

Extended reality describes the territory between screens, overlays, and fully immersive environments—and the formats that have not yet settled into names.

A web with a sense of place.

The metaverse is still more idea than destination: persistent spaces, shared presence, digital identity, and experiences that continue beyond a single page or broadcast.

StoryFrame is following how these ideas develop and considering where story, media, and the open web belong inside them.

Watch. Listen. Enter.
